Tom Brady Doesn’t Give A Damn About Going Undefeated

It didn’t take long for football fans and analysts to discuss the possibility of the Patriots going unbeaten this season. The Pats got off to a very hot start and quickly established themselves as one of the league’s best teams. Brady has been shredding defenses on a weekly basis, and — after the endless Deflategate controversy surrounded him all offseason — it looks like he’s on a mission. A revenge tour, if you will. Would this tour have any survivors?

It’s not out of the question that the Patriots could go undefeated. The only other time the team has started the season 7-0 was in 2007, the season in which they finished 16-0. Oddly enough, that campaign also came on the heels of a “cheating” controversy that dominated headlines: Spygate. Brady has been putting up similar numbers through his first seven games this year compared to his 2007 season, in which he set a new single-season touchdown passing record with 50. (It has since been broken by Peyton Manning.)

So, with the parallels and speculation being tossed out there, is a perfect season on Brady’s mind? The quarterback was asked that question on Boston’s Dennis & Callahan morning show on Monday, and the answer was an emphatic no.

“That would be the furthest thing from anybody’s mind,” he said. “I [couldn’t] really care less about those type of things. When you reflect back, you think, ‘Wow, that was a great year.’ But when you’re in the middle of it, you can’t do anything about a game in December. We’ve got one mission, it’s this week. It sounds like a cliché but it’s not, because it works, and it’s what our team’s about. We’re short-term focused.

Well, there you have it. Don’t ask Tom Brady about going undefeated. He’s on to next week.
