Tom Brady’s Insane Diet Will Make You Feel Bad About Yourself

At 38, Tom Brady is still going strong as one of the league’s most elite quarterbacks. In today’s NFL, it’s pretty rare to see any player have the longevity and consistency that Brady has shown throughout his career. Some would even argue that Brady keeps getting better with age, with no serious decline in sight. So, what’s his secret?

In addition to his natural abilities and strong work ethic, Brady also apparently adheres to a super strict diet that would drive the majority of us normal folk mad. In a recent interview with Boston.com, Brady’s personal chef provided some insight into what exactly the quarterback eats.

So, 80 percent of what they eat is vegetables. [I buy] the freshest vegetables. If it’s not organic, I don’t use it. And whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, millet, beans. The other 20 percent is lean meats: grass-fed organic steak, duck every now and then, and chicken. As for fish, I mostly cook wild salmon.

No white sugar. No white flour. No MSG. I’ll use raw olive oil, but I never cook with olive oil. I only cook with coconut oil. Fats like canola oil turn into trans fats. … I use Himalayan pink salt as the sodium. I never use iodized salt.

[Tom] doesn’t eat nightshades, because they’re not anti-inflammatory. So no tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, or eggplants. Tomatoes trickle in every now and then, but just maybe once a month. I’m very cautious about tomatoes. They cause inflammation.

What else? No coffee. No caffeine. No fungus. No dairy.

The kids eat fruit. Tom, not so much. He will eat bananas in a smoothie. But otherwise, he prefers not to eat fruits.

So, on the list of things that are too unhealthy for Tom Brady are tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, eggplants, caffeine, dairy, and fruit? That seems…insane. Those are, like, literally the healthiest things I consume.

Being a rich, superstar quarterback married to a rich, superstar model seems like a pretty cool life and all, but if somebody told me I couldn’t eat all those things and my diet had to consist of 80 percent vegetables, I would probably cause bodily harm to that person. Especially if they said no caffeine. You take away my coffee and I am not responsible for anything I may do or not do. That’s just the way life works.

Keep doing you though, Tom. It seems to be working out somewhat well.
