A Former Jets Player Messed Up The Team’s Famous ‘J-E-T-S’ Chant

There are two NFL teams that have chants which require knowing how to spell. One is the Philadelphia Eagles, as the song “Fly, Eagles Fly” ends with everyone going “E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!” The other is the New York Jets, as the “J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS!” gets busted out all the time when the team plays at home.

Neither word is especially tough, and we’ve heard both during this year’s NFL Draft. The Eagles chant has been super prominent because the draft is in Philadelphia. Every time it is performed, it’s kind of cool, as thousands of fired up Philly fans are doing it in unison.

As for the Jets chant, well, let’s just say that one former player’s rendition could have gone better. Former Jets fullback Tony Richardson announced the team’s third round pick on Friday night. Richardson, who played for the team from 2008-10, tried to say that the 79th pick in the draft would be done by “the New York J-E-T-S Jets.” Instead, he said this.

The Jets filled a pretty big need at receiver when they took ArDarius Stewart, a really talented dude who led Alabama in yards, yards per catch, and touchdowns last season. But this was … let’s say suboptimal for Richardson. It was a harmless mistake, but it was still pretty silly. Hopefully Richardson gets the chance to redeem himself at a Jets game this season.
