A Chiefs Player Created A New Way To Get Ejected By Throwing His Towel At A Ref

Travis Kelce is one of the most talented tight ends in the NFL, but he’s perhaps known better for his colorful personality, from his big celebrations to his trash talking. His active mouth got him in trouble on Sunday, though, when he found a creative way to mock a referee. The zebras don’t take kindly to being mocked, as it turns out.

Kelce went for a pass from Nick Foles in the end zone, but contact from a defensive back in the end zone went uncalled and Kelce lost it. He berated the back judge enough to draw an unsportsmanlike conduct flag – and that’s when Kelce really blew his top. He threw his hand towel at the ref, the equivalent of a lawyer saying, “No, you’re out of order!” at a judge in a legal drama. In other words, it’s pretty funny, if a bit melodramatic.

Of course, that’s as easy a penalty as it gets, and it got Kelce a second unsportsmanlike conduct, which is an automatic ejection according to new NFL rules. It may have felt good to throw that towel, but it cost the Chiefs one of their most dynamic weapons late in a close game.
