USC AD Pat Haden Flips Out On Ref, Internet Calls For His Bowl Championship Committee Ouster

In case you missed it, USC beat Stanford in Palo Alto 13-10 because Stanford forgot how to score. That happens sometimes. But it was a good victory for the Trojans, who head to Boston College next week with a 1-0 conference record.

However, there was a bit of drama in the third quarter when head coach Steve Sarkisian flipped the f*ck out at the referees after he felt they blew a call. The confrontation then got awkward once Trojans AD Pat Haden jogged down to the field to also voice his displeasure, which you can watch below.

Thing is, coaches are usually the only offenders of vituperative bombs against officials during college football games. ADs? Yeah, no, especially not one who will be serving on the playoff selection committee this year and should be seen as an objective member. It wasn’t as bad as Sarkisian’s outburst, but Haden’s presence was odd.

The Internet, without missing a beat, has already weighed in on the appearance. USA TODAY’s Dan Wolken already has a column up where he says it’s time for Haden to resign from the selection committee, because of course anything seen as acrimonious must be followed with real-time takes.

Wolken’s blunt, saying, “Sorry Pat, but that doesn’t justify what the nation saw. You lost your cool, and now you should lose your place on the selection committee.”

So there’s that. Wolken does note in his column that colleague Paul Myerberg spoke with Haden and Haden mentioned the whole chat ended up cool. Time will tell what happens to Haden, but probably nothing will. It’s fun to get mad anyways.
