A scary situation came about in Denver on Sunday afternoon, as Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips had to get carted off the sideline after a collision with Chargers running back Melvin Gordon. Phillips was standing on the sideline when Gordon collided with him and sent him flying backward.

Phillips was attended to by medical personnel on the sidelines and needed to get stretchered off to the back of the stadium. The game was stopped for several minutes while Phillips was being tended to, and as he got carted off, he gave an encouraging sign to the fans at Sports Authority Field at Mile High when he moved his right hand and held up one finger.

Phillips had to go to a local hospital after he was carted off the field, and there is some good news: he reportedly has movement in all of his extremities.

This one was really scary – Gordon’s a powerful dude and Phillips is a 69-year-old man – so for Phillips to have movement in all of his extremities is a great sign. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes in, but hopefully Phillips is ok and able to get back on the sidelines in no time.
