I think Bob Costas is just trying to be cute and sarcastic in this clip from Sunday’s U.S. Open Championship coverage, when he took a break to recap the bottom dweller classic between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs. The Mets scored four runs in the bottom of the 9th to pull off the walkoff win, but Costas referred to their celebration as further evidence of the decline of Western civilization.
I dunno, I kind of like it when crappy teams celebrate. Aside from their nice paychecks that make them wealthier than most people in the world, what else are these guys going to celebrate this year?
College World Series
UCLA vs. NC State – 8 PM ET on ESPN 2
I’d like to see more kids fighting over foul balls in this game, but tonight they get weapons. I’m talking bats, rakes, machetes and spears. Serious fighting this time.
World Cup Qualifying Soccer
U.S. vs. Honduras – 8:30 PM ET on ESPN
What I like about random soccer in the middle of the week is that it allows Americans to get piss drunk like the rest of the world. So, I guess…
Game 6: Spurs at Heat – 9 PM ET on ABC
Is this the end for the Miami Heat? Has Dwyane Wade’s decision to let LeBron James do 80% of the heavy lifting come back to bite him in the ass? Should Chris Bosh go ahead and put his South Florida home on the market? Will James reconsider his decision to take his talents to South Beach after fully he realizes the irony of going to Miami so he didn’t have to carry the entire burden like he did in Cleveland?
Or can James and the Heat overcome the balanced San Antonio Spurs and sudden uprising of possible NBA Finals MVP Danny Green? Will Tim Duncan allow the Heat to improve to 7-0 following a loss in these playoffs? Will the Heat further my theory that this is the greatest bounceback team in NBA history when it comes to winning those games after losses by huge numbers?
Will I ever stop asking questions? Am I having a stroke right now? What should I make for dinner tonight?
