Spidey Musical To Get New Director?

“Spider-Man: Slam Into A Wall” has been a disaster from start to finish, so much so that it’s almost not fun to mock the hell out of it anymore. Almost. But if they’re not done trying to bail out this sinking ship, we’re not done mocking them as the cold, icy waters of failure rise up to greet them, so let’s talk about which professional has been brought in to salvage this turkey.

We’ve already mentioned Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is onboard to rewrite the script, but there’s still the direction to take care of. Apparently the production is adding a co-director because Julie Taymor is, unsurprisingly, “exhausted” from all the setbacks and other problems the show’s been experiencing. That he happens to be Phil McKinley, a Tony-winning director who has also extensive experience directing circuses (and thus working with wire stunts, pretty much this show’s biggest problem) as well, is, of course, a total coincidence.

By the way, the official stance of the production is neither of these guys are showing up because they’re not necessary. Honest! We’ve got it all under control, guys! We haven’t hurt an actor in almost two months!
