There was a time when just the mention of Donovan McNabb's name would rile up a Black rage inside of me that could make LeRoi Jones look like Sarah Palin. McNabb was undoubtedly treated like a whipping boy in Philadelphia from the moment he was drafted until the day he was unceremoniously shipped away to the Redskins.
I'm one of those people that thinks that race had something to do with it. Granted, not everyone that gave the QB a hard time did it for racial reasons, but McNabb's story is an undeniable statement on the trials and tribulations of the Black Quarterback. Yesterday, I would have defended McNabb to my death.
Today? F*ck it.
The Redskins just gave Donovan McNabb a 5-year, $78 million contract with $40 million guaranteed. For that money, I'd soft shoe on the 30-yard line every time I threw for a first down.
