Rockwell Knuckles – “Silly Human”

By | 46 Comments

Every SXSW creates new stars. It’s undeniable. Everyone that attends leaves the event excited about the performance of a relative unknown, claiming that said artist is going to be the next big music star. Last year was my first SXSW and the artist I pinpointed for greatness was B.o.B. This year I pegged two acts for stardom: Yelawolf and Rockwell Knuckles.

Event Recap: Yelawolf @ Chicago’s Darkroom 7.17.10

In a weekend that saw 18,000 ecstatic concert-goers swamped in hives to enjoy Pitchfork's annual music festival, the sweltering avenue of W. Chicago found another reason to be excited about an live event. Yelawolf, the Alabama smooth talker who commanded the rookie spotlight with his immaculate mixtape Trunk Muzik earlier this year, had finally made his way to the Windy City.

This one has been a long time coming. Not only will Build And Destroy be Black Spade's first solo project since 2008's critically acclaimed To Serve With Love, it's also one I've been waiting to be a part of.

Nato Caliph – “Anomaly”

This is a posse cut in every sense of the word, each of these guys with a Cardinals New Era worn proudly. Every notable rap gang in the Lou makes an appearance here including The Force, Family Affair and the St. Lunatics. The surprising thing is everyone's verse is strong, each one combating for the listener's vote for which emcee killed it. In the end, it's a victory for all as the home team wins big on "Anomaly." Off Nato's upcoming REACH EP.
