Former Harvard President Larry Summers: ‘The Winklevoss Twins Are A-holes’

By / 07.21.11

Among the people suing Mark Zuckerberg for a piece of his considerable Facebook cash pie, the most prominent — and achingly persistent — are the Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron, also often referred to as the “Winklevii” thanks to Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher. Due to their egregious, litigious public behavior, which was emphatically reinforced by the portrayal of them in the film, many have come to believe that the twins are pompous, rich, privileged as$holes, and, according to Larry Summers, who was president at Harvard during the rise of Facebook, they’re exactly the pompous, rich, privileged as$holes everyone assumes they are.

“One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they’re looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an as$hole. This was the latter case. Rarely have I encountered such swagger, and I tried to respond in kind.”

It should be noted, however, that many people consider Larry Summers — a Treasury Secretary under President Clinton and an economic adviser to President Obama — to be a pompous as$hole. But it takes one to know one, as a wise man once said.

Here’s a CNN video of Summers making his remark…
