Apple Maps Has Started Trying To Kill People

By / 12.11.12

It’s fun to treat Apple Maps like it’s a pestilential sore on the face of the otherwise great iOS 6, because… well… it kind of is. But mostly jokes about it being dangerous were just that, jokes.

Until now. Now we’re starting to think Apple Maps is the first attack plan developed by Skynet, because it’s starting to try and strand people in the middle of nowhere.

Specifically, a national park in Australia, 43 miles away from Mildura, the city these lost drivers were trying to go to:

“Tests on the mapping system by police confirm the mapping systems lists Mildura in the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, approximately 70km away from the actual location of Mildura,” police said in a statement. “Police are extremely concerned as there is no water supply within the Park and temperatures can reach as high as 46 degrees [Celsius, roughly 115 degrees Fahrenheit], making this a potentially life threatening issue.”

So, Apple Maps is leading people to the middle of nowhere without adequate food or water. This comes hot on the heels of rumors that Siri will reassure you that you deserve another piece of cake, and iTunes playing nothing but Joy Division and the Cure if it detects people feeling depressed.

This is how it starts, people: Passive aggression. In all seriousness: Use Google Maps.
