The iPhone 6 Sapphire Display Allegedly Leaks Like A Rusty Old Fishing Boat

As always, there’s a grain of salt to be consumed with any “leak” of Apple parts or products. But Marques Brownlee generally knows his stuff, and if nothing else, it’s fun to watch him try and destroy something that just won’t break. Brownlee is demonstrating, here, the durability of sapphire crystal, a material Apple already uses for camera lenses and other stuff that needs not to scratch or break. It’s also a bit hard to just turn out panels of the stuff by the millions, which is why Apple has stuck with Gorilla Glass. But apparently for the upcoming iPhone 6, likely being announced in the fall, they’ve decided to go with a tougher material. Also of interest is the size of the screen. Analysts being analysts, there’s some argument about whether Apple will be introducing two sizes of iPhone or one, with some believing Apple will just stick to the larger screen. This would seem to confirm that at the very least, there’s a 4.7″ iPhone out there. In short, approach this with a little skepticism. But if you’re looking to trade in your phone, or it tends to get trashed in your pocket, you’ve got something to look forward to in the fall.
