It’s finally happened: AT&T has admitted that they don’t have exclusive access to the iPhone anymore.
Seriously, looking at their behavior over the last few years, you’d think Verizon and Sprint hadn’t gotten access to it. All the issues iPhone users were complaining about persisted. AT&T was hoping to fix those problems with T-Mobile, but we all know how that turned out.
So, as of today, AT&T will unlock your phone, provided you meet the following requirements:
“…a customer’s account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies, or paid an early termination fee.”
Of course, it’s been 100% legal to just jailbreak your iPhone for two years now, so AT&T is just a little late to this party. Although at least when they unlock your phone, you keep your warranty.
