Google Is Now Stuffing Google Plus Into Your GMail

In its ongoing quest to make you use Google Plus even though nobody, anywhere, cares about it, Google is going to offer more “integration” with your GMail.

By which we mean it’s basically going to stick a Google Plus page right into your email whether you want it or not.

The idea is essentially this: say you comment on somebody’s photo in Google Plus. Instead of sending you the notification email and making you go to the page to comment, now the page will be right there, in your inbox, and you can just offer a comment in reply.

This is part of an ongoing and relentless attempt to get people to use Google Plus. As noted by Wesley Crusher, you needed a Google Plus account to like a YouTube video. In fact, he summed up how a lot of people feel about this pretty well:

Oh, go f*** yourself, Google. This is just as bad as companies forcing me to “like” something on Facebook before I can view whatever it is they want me to “like.”
Just let me thumbs up something, without forcing me to “upgrade” to G+, you ****heads.
The worst part of this? For a producer like me, I’m going to lose a crapton of potential upvotes for Tabletop, because the core of my audience is tech-savvy and may not want to “upgrade” to yet another f***ing social network they don’t want or need.

And that’s really the thing: we were pretty high on Google Plus until it became clear this was going to be another Google Wave instead of another Google Maps. Now we kind of cringe at the idea that we ever thought it could take Facebook.

Google’s not going to stop, though. Hooray for being evil!
