Fountain Lady Doesn’t Think It’s Funny

This security camera footage of a woman falling into a mall fountain because she’s too busy texting went viral on bodily harm happening. Personally, I’d prefer to see “texter gets hit by bus” or “texter falls off ledge into industrial sausage grinder,” because I get off on Darwinian cruelty. I’m all about thinning the herd, if you know what I’m saying.

And if you think that sentiment is too cruel, check out the CNN clip below that features an interview with the “victim,” 49-year-old Pennsylvania native Cathy Cruz Marrero, who is actually pursuing legal action against the mall. Urge. To Kill. RISING.

“I get called stating that I’m on YouTube. And I’m like, ‘Are you KIDDING ME?’ And my nephew’s like, ‘No, you’re on YouTube.’ And I was like, ‘I can’t believe this!’ and started crying… When I went to work, and saw how they laughed, and the comments that they made, I didn’t think that was funny.”

Was it professional of the mall security guards to laugh at her misfortune and put the video on YouTube? Probably not, which may explain why they’re mall security guards.

The bigger issue here is jackasses walking around with their faces in their smartphones. As someone who walks around the city every day, navigating around people who are walking and texting is one of my biggest pet peeves. Every time I see someone doing it, I have to fight the urge to slap the phone out of their hands and onto the ground. There’s just never an open tiger pit dug into the sidewalk when you need one.
