In a shocking move, History announced on Friday that it was pulling “The Kennedys,” the 8-part miniseries starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes that was supposed to air this spring. (SPOILER ALERT: Jack and Bobby get shot.)

“Upon completion of the production of The Kennedys, History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries on the network,” a rep for the network tells The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.” [THR]

More appropriate for the History brand: “Ice Road Truckers.”

Anyway, Deadline says that the miniseries, which is now being shopped to Showtime, was blocked by the long powerful tentacles of the Kennedy family.

I hear the stunning cancellation, which was done after the mini had been completed, was done under political pressure from the Kennedy family who were not comfortable with the project coming out in the year of the 50th anniversary of Camelot. History is part of the A&E Networks, which is co-owned by the Walt Disney Co. Disney’s interest in the company is overseen by Disney-ABC TV Group president Anne Sweeney who is an A&E Networks board member.  She is also a board member on the Special Olympics, which is synonymous with the Kennedy family, having been launched by John F. Kennedy’s sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver, with Tim Shriver serving as current chairman and CEO.

That’s right, it’s a conspiracy! A conspiracy to keep Katie Holmes’s acting from being seen, which is the best kind of conspiracy.
