Ever since Dr. House got hooked on painkillers, “House” has veered away from its solving medical mysteries. And while that may or may not make the show better than it was before, there’s no denying that the writers are feeling more creative: the scene above is an obvious homage to the scene in Pulp Fiction where Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) interrogates Brett (see video below).
It’s not a shot-for-shot recreation — understandable, given the time constraints of television — and there’s an obvious dearth of F-bombs, but all in all I’d say it’s a well-executed and entertaining nod to Quentin Tarantino. And since no director borrows visuals quite like Tarantino, this may be the closest we’ll ever get to seeing a spaghetti western or crazy Japanese anime on Fox. (Until it becomes a softcore porn channel, of course. But that’ll happen gradually.)
