Everyone Hates Paul Reiser, Part 2

What a great day this has been. Not only was ‘The Paul Reiser Show” universally panned by critics, but it also tanked in the ratings. Like, “Lone Star”-level tanked. The ratings were somehow even worse than the reviews. Beautifully so:

On NBC the lack of CBS and ABC original competition late helped the ratings, but the series premiere of The Paul Reiser Show crashed on takeoff, with just a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating, the lowest ever rating for an NBC in season sitcom premiere. [TVBTN]

Boosh! Reiser, however, isn’t fazed by the numbers. He’s in it for the long haul, baby.

“Listen, this was shortest ramp up in the history of television. Literally 20 days ago said, ‘We’re putting you up,’ and we said, ‘OK, great,’ ” he told The Hollywood Reporter at NBC’s Summer Press day in Pasadena.

“To me, this is a show about the long range, which is why we wanted to do seven shows as opposed to just a pilot,” he added. “This is a show that’s going to be on hopefully for awhile and the audience will get a chance to hear about it – when you have 20 days, it’s hard to get the word out. That may be the the first time I’ve ever laughed at something Paul Reiser said. He actually said “long range” while talking about his show. That’s like getting shot in the leg and pretending the tourniquet is a long-range solution. Although I don’t know exactly what Reiser is in that metaphor — the wound, the tourniquet, or the eventual gangrene.
