Weekend Preview: Animal Oscars!

2011 Genesis Awards (Animal Planet, Saturday) — It’s called Oscar night for animals, but there’s no way that can live up to my dream of what the Oscars for animals would look like. Unless there are a bunch of dogs in tuxedos and cats in couture gowns and it’s hosted by a chimpanzee, I’m gonna be disappointed. (It’s pre-taped; you can see the winners here.)

Will and Kate: Road to the Altar (E!, Friday) — As much as my interest in the royal wedding was limited to corgis, I have to admit: it would be pretty f’n sweet to look out on a throng of thousands and have them erupt in applause when you kiss your bride.

Undercover Boss (CBS, Sunday) — Season finale. A university chancellor poses as a campus tour guide, a position that in my life has ONLY ever been held by undergrad students. I like to imagine he’ll look like Mr. Burns posing as Jimbo Jones. “Ahoy there, dean! I understand that you’re taking suggestions from students. Well, me and my fourth-form chums think it would be quite corking if you were to reinvest that money back into the local energy concern.”

Game of Thrones (HBO, Sunday) — Last week’s show had two direwolf attacks, woman-on-woman grinding, and a dwarf slapping the daylights out of a prissy teenage boy. Yup, that’ll do. I think this week’s episode includes Dany eating a horse’s heart and the first appearance by Mayor Carcetti as Littlefinger. (GIF via EW, another GIF below)

In Plain Sight (USA, Sunday) — Season premiere. This shares the 10 o’clock slot with “Game of Thrones” and “The Killing,” and it will probably get more viewers than those two shows combined. USA is the CBS of cable.

The Killing (AMC, Sunday) — I’m enjoying “The Killing” all right, but I’m not sure if I’d stick around to watch a second season of it. Not only have I relegated it to Monday nights (Sundays are for “Treme” and “Game of Thrones”), but I always find myself checking Twitter during the show. It never really captures my full attention.
