The Muppets Join Forces with Google. Next Stop: World Domination

The Muppets didn’t exactly burn it up at the box office last month, and they failed to garner any Golden Globe nominations, but they had to be one of the bigger viral trends on the Internet this year. Those furry felt creatures with a hand up their ass were everywhere in 2011. Now there’s even a TV show in development over on NBC, which would be awesome if anyone actually watched NBC.

Now, Google is attempting to exploit them in an effort to challenge Facebook (take that, Big Bird). After the success of its Google Chrome TV spots, they decided to throw a lot of money at their Google+ problem, but I don’t know how successful this new campaign for Google Hangouts will be. On the one hand, I could watch this Muppet TV spot for hours. But on the other, those Google Hangouts seem like they’ve been specifically designed with “Dateline: To Catch a Predator” episodes in mind.

Just remember: It’s OK to rock out with the Muppets, kids, but stay away from the guy with the mustache. Unless he’s Swedish.
