A Braveheart TV Show Question Mark

Considering half of all scripted TV shows are either remakes of old shows and movies and/or hyper-violent historical tales, I suppose a series based on Braveheart was only a matter of time.

“This was a turbulent time in Scotland’s history, in which William Wallace had a starring and pivotal role,” STV director of content Clements said in a statement announcing the news. “We plan to delve deep into his character and explore his passions, bringing parts of history to life in a spectacular and raw depiction. With all eyes on Scotland in the current political climate, this also seems to be a very appropriate time to tell this story in more depth.”

The series, said to be in the vein of Starz’s Spartacus and HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be shopped next month at MIP. [THR]

“A spectacular and raw depiction” that is “in the vein of ‘Spartacus’ and ‘Game of Thrones'”? Allow me to translate this for you, if I may: The dude who plays William Wallace is going to be all jacked up like Stallone in the 80s as though the Scottish countryside had Nautilus machines set up every quarter mile, and every episode will be stuffed to the gills with gratuitous nudity and people getting their intestines ripped out.

So, yeah, this show looks pretty good.
