I’ve been following Emma Stone’s career regularly since Superbad, which meant suffering through a few clunkers like The House Bunny, The Rocker and the irredeemable Ghosts of Girlfriends Past before her next break-out hit, Zombieland. What I didn’t realize until today, however, was that Emma Stone got her start in a reality competition, “In Search of a New Partridge Family.” In an interview with The Daily Beast, she talks about how she entered — and won — a VH1 reality competition to become the Susan Dey character in the “New Partridge Family.”
It was totally, 100 percent a reality show. My mom had never pushed me to audition for anything, but she saw a commercial on TV for it and said, “You look like Susan Dey a little, and just dyed your hair brown … Why don’t you give this a shot? I have a weird feeling.” I did it and ended up winning. I don’t regret it for a minute.
There’s even video evidence, in which she — as “Emily Stone” — sings a terrible duet of “We Belong.” She looks like she weighed about 60 pounds and sings like an off-key house cat.
Strangely enough, before Superbad she also had a role as a babysitter in Louis C.K.’s old HBO sitcom, “Lucky Louie.”
