I didn't get a wink of sleep last night. It wasn't for any particular reason, like I was worried about how America would do in javelin during the Olympics, other than I simply couldn't fall asleep. I wasn't doing myself any favors, either, when I watched last night's Louie around 2 a.m. That's not something I'd recommend, especially when it's an episode like part two of "Daddy's Girlfriend," which was as surprising and uncomfortable as it was tender and fantastic. At the time, I remember thinking if what I was seeing was "real," particularly during the walking scene that's shot in such a lonesome way that you only see one person at a time on-screen, and not just some lack-of-sleep dream that had our hero, the Fatty to Parker Posey's No Tits (who delivered an Emmy-worthy performance), put on a sparkly dress and take a snake-cursed homeless person to a motel. That actually happened — and "Daddy's Girlfriend," which ended with a brilliant rooftop scene that shows just how mentally ill "Liz" is, is one of the strongest two-part episodes of any recent show that comes to mind.
No bullet points this week. Straight to the soul crushing.
I'm not including this as a soul-crushing moment, but seriously: ???
