Weekend Preview: Here You Go, ‘Fringe’ Fans

Fringe (Fox, 9 p.m., Friday) — I’ve been feeling guilty about not watching Fringe for an unprecedented 89 non-consecutive weeks now, which incidentally is also the number of episodes of Fringe. I hope someone OBSERVES into that. (It’s the only reference I’ve got.) Anyway, to make up for my not watching, you Fring(e)les get the banner image. Congrats.

MLB Playoffs (TBS, 5 p.m., Friday) — The playoffs begin with St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves, followed by Baltimore Orioles at Texas Rangers. Go teams named after nonthreatening birds.

Gravity Falls (Disney, 9 p.m., Friday) — The most kid-friendly of the three (all excellent) current shows starring Kristen Schaal. Unless your kid loves Bob’s Burgers. Then you’re doing something right as a parent.

SNL (NBC, 11:30 p.m., Saturday) — Daniel Craig hosts, Muse plays music, and we hope for a sketch about Bond Girls not starring Bobby Moynihan. Kate Upton is in town.

The Simpsons (Fox, 8 p.m., Sunday) — Due to the aforementioned baseball playoffs, The Simpsons is airing its annual “Treehouse of Horror” this weekend. It involves the Mayans, unholy pacts, and time travel. Considering last week’s episode was about the Simpsons going to New York City, except the time travel plot to involve a device that toasts bread.

MythBusters (Discovery, 8 p.m., Sunday) — Season premiere. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman test out whether both Jack and Rose could have fit on the same raft at the end of Titanic, with special guest James Cameron, the bravest pioneer. Who’s that? It’s him. James Cam-e-ron.

Dexter (Showtime, 9 p.m., Sunday) — Let’s see if last week’s episode was just a fluke, or whether we have to take Dexter seriously again. I’m hoping for the latter. I like MCH too much.

Homeland (Showtime, 10 p.m., Sunday) — Among shows not named Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones, Homeland is the drama I most look forward to, and last Sunday’s second season premiere was great. I’ve watched that GIF of Claire Danes smiling approximately 435 times.
