Beyoncé Is Directing An ‘Intimate’ And ‘Revealing’ HBO Documentary About Beyoncé

HBO announced earlier today that it has acquired the rights to a documentary about Beyoncé Knowles. And if any of you are thinking this is going to be some kind of puff-piece propaganda that glosses over her flaws and paints her in a strictly positive light, you can cut it with that nonsense right now. The documentary is going to be “intimate” and “revealing,” and will give the viewer “unprecedented access” to the star’s life, says HBO and the film’s first-time director, a fresh-faced auteur by the name of Beyoncé Knowles, who is also producing the film.

Representatives of the pop star started shopping the film to distributors last summer. According to HBO the finished product will include footage shot by Ms. Knowles on her laptop, along with concert footage, home movies and other material. [NY Times]

To recap: Beyoncé is producing and directing a documentary about herself that will feature footage she shot using the webcam on her laptop, and it is going to air on HBO. I can’t decide if I should make fun of this or just sit in awe of its audacity. I mean, SHE IS DIRECTING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HERSELF. I can’t be the only one who finds this all a little odd.

I will be sure to update you all with my feelings on the matter as they evolve.
