A brief list of Pros and Cons:
CON: There was a 13-foot, 1000 pound great white shark swimming off the coast of Fort Lauderdale yesterday, which is notable because (a) Fort Lauderdale is in Florida, and Florida is in America, and I live in America, and (b) AAAAAAAAHHHHHH HOLY SH-T BIG SHARK EVERYBODY RUN.
PRO: A fishing group aboard a boat named Hooked Up snagged it and reeled it in.
CON: Unfortunately, they had to let it go because it is currently illegal to catch great white sharks in Florida. (And I say “currently” because the Florida legislature could reverse this insane policy that gives aid and comfort to nature’s most perfect and frightening predator in about 10 minutes if they put their mind to it.)
PRO: Great whites are usually pretty rare in Florida, and the captain of charter boat, Taco Perez, claims that this is only the second one he has seen in his 44 years of fishing off the state’s coast.
CON: Two great white sharks in 44 years is still way too damn many if you ask mHOLD ON DID I JUST SAY THE CAPTAIN OF THE BOAT THAT CAUGHT A GREAT WHITE SHARK IS A LIFELONG SEAFARER NAMED CAPTAIN TACO?
PRO: CAPTAIN TACO.
VERDICT: This story — giant shark on the loose and all — is A-OK with me.
