All Hell Broke Loose In Boston Overnight As Bombing Suspects Are On The Run, Placing The City On Lockdown

When I woke up this morning the first thing I did, as always, was grab my phone to check it for messages. What I initially saw was a message from a friend saying, “Duuuuuude, are you listening to the Boston Police scanner on Reddit right now?!?!” I, obviously, was not, but I now know what she was referring to.

In short, an entire American city is on lockdown right now. Public transportation has been shut down. People have been ordered to stay indoors and not go outside. Gunfire and explosions have not been uncommon. One terrorist is dead and another is on the run, considered armed and dangerous. It all sounds like something from a Die Hard movie.

Reports the New York Times:

The surviving suspect was identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a law enforcement official said. The suspect who was killed was identified as his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, the law enforcement official said. Investigators believe that both of the suspects were Chechens.

In the course of the chase, the suspects shot and killed a campus police officer at M.I.T. and severely wounded a transit police officer, police said. The authorities were investigating whether the suspect who was killed had an improvised explosive device strapped to his body, two law enforcement officials said.

Well there you go. If you guessed that the Boston bombing culprits were anti-government militia members or or Middle Eastern descent, you were wrong. They are of the Chechen terrorist variety. Here’s the police info on the guy still on the run…

This photo, posted to Twitter by a Boston resident, pretty much sums up what’s going on there right now…

Reuters has a decent live blog going with up-to-the-minute info. Meanwhile, The Onion, as always, summed this week up best.

Calling the last four days of American life just…I mean, talk about a goddamned punch in the gut, citizens across the nation confirmed today that, Jesus, this week.

This f*cking week, sources added.

Christ.

Amen.
