Christopher Abbott Quit ‘Girls’ After ‘Butting Heads’ With Lena Dunham

CHARLIE OUT.

Christopher Abbott — who plays Allison Williams’ boyfriend Charlie on Lena Dunham’s HBO series “Girls” — has abruptly left the show, we’ve exclusively learned. The move comes just as his character seemed to be gaining prominence, with Charlie (a k a the cutest guy on the show) reconciling with Williams’ character, Marnie. But sources told Page Six that Abbott and Dunham began butting heads as the critical-darling series entered production again. “They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,” a source said. “He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.” [NY Post]

There’s really no way to choose sides here since we have no context for their disagreement, so I’d just like to point out that the quote from the source is ridiculous. “What? You’re quitting? Why? Because things have changed since you were hired and you’re no longer comfortable with the direction of the show and/or appearing on televisions across the country as a character you don’t like or identify with and you’d prefer to do the rational thing and leave rather than continue to show up every day and be miserable? BUT WE MADE YOU.” Hollywood is weird.
