There Goes Using Netflix As A Babysitter: They Just Yanked Nickelodeon Shows

By / 05.28.13

Earlier today, I wrote about the fact that Netflix would no longer be offering advanced warning about the titles that were expiring. Netflix responded on Twitter, however, to say that there are expiration dates if you look at each individual title. That may be true, but unless you look at each title, we won’t know what’s going and what’s staying. For instance, many people may not have realized that — as of this weekend, apparently — Viacom has pulled its titles from Netflix, according to Mashable.

What does that mean? That means no more Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, iCarly, SpongeBob SquarePants or Blue Clues, which is both a blessing and a curse, I suppose. Those shows are annoying as hell (except for Blue Clues which I kind of dig, at least the Steve version), but our kids loved them. On a Saturday morning when you need ONE MORE HOUR OF SLEEP, Netflix is a goddamn godsend sometimes, but without some of the biggest draws, Netflix is not as valuable to our kids.

On the bright side, Jersey Shore was also pulled. Moreover, WordGirl is still available, as are three seasons of Phineas and Ferb. The service has also added some Disney Junior titles. Of course, I recall that Amazon was planning on churning out several original kids programs, so that may be the better option in the future, at least for kids’ content.

I should really do a list of the best available kid’s shows on Netflix right now. Any suggestions, besides what’s been yanked, of course.
