Florida Law Enforcement Officials Tased A Renegade Kangaroo This Weekend

By / 06.03.13

Hey, let’s see what Florida was up to this weekend, shall we?

Law enforcement officers Sunday in Pasco County captured a kangaroo that had been on the run for several hours. [...]

Deputies first contained it and put in a pen, but the feisty animal got away. Deputies then tried to tranquilize it four times and that didn’t work, so they finally used a Taser on the kangaroo. [BayNews9]

I don’t want what I’m about to type to be interpreted as pro-animal cruelty, because that is definitely not the point I’m trying to make here, but seriously, there are not nearly enough sentences that end with the phrase “so they finally used a Taser on the kangaroo.”

Australia’s national anthem excluded, obviously.

“I’m in awe thinking, was that just a kangaroo in front of my car?? And then all the cops were running down the street. It was definitely a traffic stopper,” said Yvonne Lafon.

“17 years of law enforcement and this is the first time I’ve had a kangaroo call,” said Deputy Gene Smith. “I’ve never felt such power in my life. Those things are strong.”

Here’s how you can tell this story is nuts: It actually surprised someone who has been working in law enforcement in Florida for 17 years. There’s a high degree of difficulty on that one.

Anyway, that about wraps it up for the Florida news rounduHOLD ON FLORIDA OFFICIALS TASED A LLAMA THIS WEEKEND, TOO? IN A TOTALLY SEPARATE INCIDENT? JESUS.

When Scooter the llama busted out of his penned-in yard in Tallahassee, it took three county sheriff’s deputies and a taser gun to get him back in again.

The 6-foot-tall, 7-year-old llama outran the authorities in Tallahassee for a while, even leaping over a 4-foot fence to avoid capture, Leon County Lt. Tony Drzewiecki said Sunday.

“Scooter was running in the middle of the road, so he was going to cause an accident eventually,” Drzewiecki said. [AP]
