The Men's Wearhouse Guy Got Fired

By / 06.19.13

One of my favorite advertising campaigns of all-time is the Men’s Wearhouse “You’re gonna like the way you look, I guarantee it” series of commercials, mostly because George Zimmer, the company’s founder and spokesman, has started looking and sounding more and more like a supervillain with each new spot, and the slogan has morphed from a promise made by a salesman into what appears to be a thinly-veiled threat. Seriously, watch the newer commercials and replace the “You’re gonna like the way you look” that he delivers in his deep, gravely voice with, like, “You’ll rue the day you crossed me” or “One day you’ll all be sorry.” It’ll blow your mind.

Anyway, that’s why I’m super-bummed out right now, because Zimmer just got fired.

Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company.

Men’s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer’s departure — which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer’s departure would not affect operation.

That settles it. From now on we all shop at Joseph A. Bank.
