Veep had the very unenviable task last night of following the most epic episode of Game of Thrones to date, and I don’t know if it was simply because it was a hard act to follow, or if it just wasn’t one of the better episodes of Veep, but the episode felt lacking. However, that could be because of the numbness many of us were feeling after Game of Thrones. In either respect, the show still delivered some great lines, per usual. Last night’s episode centered around a government shut-down, in which the Vice President was eventually saddled with the blame. It is, however, the job of the Vice President to take it up the a**. Meanwhile, the Vice President continues to sleep with her ex-husband, which probably isn’t the best idea. Gary was also sent to retrieve Meyer’s trash after he had it picked up by a private contractor, and God knows what was inside of it. Whatever it was, elicited a lot of awkward silence. Elsewhere, Dan’s ambition led him to seek other job opportunities while he was on furlough, and Jonah acted like a douche. In other words, Jonah was being Jonah. One thing to keep an eye on is Minnesota Governor Chung, who appears to be positioning himself to run against the Vice President in the 2020 election.
Here were the best lines from the episode.
