Game of Thrones loves its British actors, and it’s reaching over into Steven Moffat’s territory once again to grab Mark Gatiss, who many of you may know as Mycroft, the brother of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Homes in Sherlock. (Oona Chaplin (Talisa Maegyr) was also a veteran of Sherlock, having had a role in “The Scandal of Belgravia” before jumping over to the BBC’s The Hours). Gatis, actually, is also the co-creator of Sherlock, along with Steven Moffat. Besides Mycroft Holmes, Mark Gatis is also from the Doctor Who world, where he’s written six episodes, but is probably most famous for playing Lazaurs in 2007’s “The Lazarus Experiment”:

He also did some uncredited voice work on two episodes and appeared as Danny Boy in “The Wedding of River Song,” although you wouldn’t know it:

Anyway, I’m spending a lot of time talking about what Gatis did as opposed to what he’s going to do on Game of Thrones because, truthfully, we have no idea who he’s going to play. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are keeping that quiet for now, according to EW.

Smug book readers, however, can speculate to your heart’s delight. We do know he’ll be joining the season four cast along with Pedro Pascal, who will play The Red Viper, and we also know the list of directors for season four, which includes Neil Marshall returning once again to direct the penultimate episode of the season (he also directed the penultimate episode of season two, “The Battle of Blackwater.”)
