The Killing (AMC, Sunday 9 p.m.) — You’re going to have a hard time believing this if you quit the show a while back, but last week’s episode of The Killing may have been the best episode of television all week. It was intense and f***ed up, and really, really good. It was a great representation of the show we were all hoping for when the series debuted three years ago.
Ray Donovan (Showtime, Sunday 10 p.m.) — If, let’s say, the Sopranos were a toy doll, and you were to shake that toy doll, throw it down the stairs, stomp on it a few times, let a Rottweiler play with it for half an hour, and then urinate on the mangled doll, what’s left would be Ray Donovan, a show that hit new levels of bad last week by featuring Jon Voight POINTLESSLY backdoor-banging three women in a dream sequence. You don’t know terror until you’ve seen Jon Voight’s old man boobs jiggle while he’s sex-grunting.
Newsroom (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — In happier news, Sunday night also features the third episode of Newsroom, which will continue the Operation Genoa storyline. In related news, Christine Romans — who Olivia Munn’s character is based on — read our post about it and tweeted a thanks, and my first thought was, I really shouldn’t have included the boobs GIF.
Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC, Friday 10 p.m.) — You should really read our live discussion with host Scott Aukerman. It is crucial to understanding the series. Also, Anna Kendrick is on tonight, and that’s really all you need to know.
Make Mermaids (Netflix, Anytime) — The latest series to debut on Netflix (it actually debuted at 12:01 a.m.) is teen targeted. It’s about three mermaids who trade in their fins for legs. Here’s a trailer. I don’t think it’s really suited to our target demo.
Finally, SHAMELESS PLUG: If you have some time to kill over the weekend, do check out The Station Agents, the television podcast Josh, myself, and Pajiba’s Joanna Robinson record each week. We’re 28 episodes in, and I think we’re finally finding our rhythm.
