Anti-Gun Proponent Sylvester Stallone To Bring ‘Rambo’ Series To Television

By / 08.21.13

RAMBO (1985)

Today I learned that Sylvester Stallone — of all people — is apparently anti-gun. Here’s what he said more than a decade ago, after Phil Hartman was murdered by his crazed wife.

“Until America, door to door, takes every handgun, this is what you’re gonna have. It’s pathetic. It really is pathetic. It’s sad. We’re living in the Dark Ages over there.”

More recently, Stallone had this to day:

“I know people get (upset) and go, ‘They’re going to take away the assault weapon.’ Who … needs an assault weapon? Like really, unless you’re carrying out an assault. … You can’t hunt with it. … Who’s going to attack your house, a (expletive) army?”

There’s a certain irony to the fact that Stallone — who plays the biggest assault weapon wielder in movie history — believes this, but it’s not a bad irony. As Chloe Grace Moretz recently said, in defending Kick Ass 2 to the likes of her own co-star, Jim Carrey: “It’s a movie. If you are going to believe and be affected by an action film, you shouldn’t go to see Pocahontas because you are going to think you are a Disney princess.”

Exactly.

I mention this only because professional nostalgia peddler, Sly Stallone is bringing back assault-weapon toting Rambo. This time, on the small screen.

From THR:

Entertainment One has inked a co-development pact with Avi Lerner’s Nu Image to develop and produce a TV series based on the Rambo property.

As part of their exclusive option arrangement, the partners will jointly develop the series and shop it to broadcasters in the U.S. and internationally.

Stallone is in talks to participate on a “creative level” and potentially reprise his iconic role as Rambo.

Stallone, by the way, is 67 years old. It’s also worth noting that, just three years ago, Stallone stated in an interview:

“I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure, I was going to do it… but for Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I don’t want that to happen.”

Well, so much for that.
