TNT has released the first trailer for Mob City, their new event series executive produced by former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont, who also wrote and directed the pilot. The series is based on John Buntin’s book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City, and will run for six episodes starting Wednesday, December 4. A little background, via THR:

The 1940s-set series opens in post-war L.A. where the city is caught between a powerful and corrupt police force and a criminal network determined to set up shop on the West Coast.

Jon Bernthal stars as a member of a mob task force set up by LAPD Chief William Parker (Neal McDonough), who has made it his mission to free his city of criminals like Ben “Bugsy” Siegel (Ed Burns) and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke), the ruthless king of the L.A. underworld. To accomplish his mission, Parker sets up a new mob task force within the LAPD headed by Detective Hal Morrison (The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey DeMunn) and Detective Joe Teague (The Walking Dead‘s Bernthal), an ex-Marine who holds his cards close to the vest.

If all this sounds a little familiar, it’s probably because (a) we discussed this show back in March when it was called L.A. Noir, and (b) crime dramas set in pre-1960s Tinseltown ain’t exactly rare. (Chinatown, Dick Tracy, L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, etc.) But hey, it’s got Quarles from Justified in it and there are a bunch of people in fancy pinstriped suits getting mowed down with Tommy guns, so how bad can it be, right?
