The Killing (AMC, Sunday 9 p.m.) The most important thing about this weekend is that it’s the last Sunday before Breaking Bad returns, but the two-hour finale of the most improved show of, like, ever is a nice way to kill time before BB returns. If you’re not caught up, last week’s episode was the most gut-wrenching episode of television this summer.
Dexter (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Meanwhile, the rapid descent of the already mediocre Dexter continues, as one major arc has apparently wrapped in spectacularly anti-climactic fashion, although it is my understanding that a very beautiful character is set to return this week. So, there is some reason to watch. In the meantime, check out the original Dexter title sequence deemed “too dark” by the network.
Newsroom (HBO, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Meanwhile, over on Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, as they continue with the Operation Genoa plotline, we’ll find out this week if my theory on Maggie’s trip to Africa pans out, and maybe Sorkin can also piss off some more Romney aides.
NTSF: SD: SUV (Adult Swim, Friday 12:!5 a.m.) — It’s already aired, actually, but track it down on On Demand if you haven’t seen it yet. In last week’s episode, the delightful Abigail Spencer made a reference to her (bad) movie Chasing Mavericks, which I’m sure all six people who have seen Chasing Mavericks AND watch NTSF properly enjoyed.
Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC, Friday 10 p.m.) — Last week’s episode with Anna Kendrick made Josh’s top 5 shows of the week, while this week’s episode will feature Mr. Show’s David Cross and Bob Odenkirk.
Sunday Night Football: Hall of Fame Game, Green Bay Packers vs. Miami Dolphins (NBC, Sunday 8 p.m.) — The first preseason NFL game of the year kicks off, which is not really worth watching, but it does set in the panic, as we begin to ponder once again how the hell we’re going to fit 12 hours of NFL football into our weekly schedule again this fall?
