What’s On Tonight: ‘The Bridge’ And The American Premiere Of ‘Broadchurch’

The Bridge (FX, 10:00 p.m.) – I’ll give The Bridge this: Not many shows have the chutzpah to go full-on decapitated-head-in-a-bag by the end of their fourth episode. Then again, not many shows open their whole run with halves from two different bodies clothed and assembled to look like one. I’d be surprised if any character on this show still has all four limbs by the season finale.

Broadchurch (BBC America, 10:00 p.m.) – American premiere. This show is a big deal in Britain, and critics seem to love it, so maybe consider checking it out. Here’s Dustin’s description: “The Killing minus the rain and the grimness, only it’s really good. But so, so brutal to watch.”

Franklin & Bash (TNT, 9:00 p.m.) – Thomas Lennon appears on tonight’s episode as a bounty hunter. This is excellent news, because between The State, Reno 911!, and his appearances as Lil Gary on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast, Thomas Lennon is one of my favorite people.

Top Chef Masters (Bravo, 10:00 p.m.) – On tonight’s episode (titled “Sex, Greed and Murder”), the chefs prepare “soap-opera-themed” culinary creations for the cast of Days of Our Lives. I assume this means someone will serve a chicken that everyone thinks is dead, but then it will wake up on the plate and proceed to sleep with someone’s amnesiac brother.

Royal Pains/Necessary Roughness (USA Network, 9:00-11:00 p.m.) – I wrote a huge thing about all the USA original shows, then promptly forgot these two existed. Writing is cleansing like that.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Jason Sudeikis, Amber Heard, and Mayer Hawthorne are on Kimmel; Lindsay Lohan is on a repeat of Letterman; Jeff Goldblum is on Ferguson; Matt Damon and Anna Faris are on Leno; Amanda Seyfried and Fran Leibowitz are on Fallon; Lake Bell is on with John Oliver; Ashton Kutcher is on Colbert; and Sharon Stone and Anthony Jeselnik are on Conan.
