Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC, 8 p.m.) — For the last three months, I’ve had virtually nothing to talk about in this space except for Suits, and suddenly, Tuesday night is chock full of television, beginning with Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. series, which has already amassed over 1 million Facebook fans. This show is going to get huge overnight ratings. Will it be good? Hmmm. I dunno. It will be Whedon-y, so I guess it depends on what you think of Whedon.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox, 8:30 p.m.) — I really dug last week’s premiere, and the Andy Samberg comedy has earned itself not only a season pass, but it’s my second favorite new show of the season, so far.
The Goldbergs (ABC, 9:01 p.m.) — That’s only because The Goldbergs was my favorite show, so far. The pilot has been online for a few weeks, and it’s basically an 80’s set The Wonder Years with Patton Oswalt instead of Daniel Stern doing the voiceover narration, and Jeff Garlin is at his obnoxious best as the dad. By the time the REO Speedwagon song played, I was totally smitten.
Trophy Wife (ABC, 9:31 p.m.) — Good cast — Malin Akerman, Bradley Whitford, Marcia Gay Harden — but I couldn’t help but get the sense that Trophy Wife just wanted to be a divorced-family version of Modern Family. It’s not a bad pilot, but it’s not really that compelling, either.
New Girl/Mindy Project (Fox, 9-10 p.m.) — Nick and Jess will navigate The Moonlighting curse (take notes from Andy and April on Parks and Rec), while Mindy will aim to rid her office of that pesky douchebag, James Franco.
Lucky 7 (ABC, 10 p.m.) — Fortunately, the networks give us a breather in the 10:00 hour, with the return of Chicago Fire on NBC (who cares?) and Persons of Interest on CBS. ABC debuts Lucky 7, which is a melodrama about seven people from the same workplace who split a lottery ticket and win. The drama deals with the fallout, and reviews have not been too kind. It’s probably not worth bothering with, since it’ll be cancelled before Christmas.
Sons of Anarchy (FX, 10 p.m.) — Alas, there’s still Sons of Anarchy to fill out the night, as SAMCRO continues to deal with the fallout from the school shooting.
LATE NIGHT LISTINGS: Olivia Wilde and Adam Scott are on Leno; Letterman has Lizzy Caplan; Justin Timberlake takes a break from Fallon to appear on Kimmel; Ray Romano is on Ferguson; Fallon has Joseph Gordon-Levitt; Metallica is on The Colbert Report, and Jane Lynch is on Conan.
