What’s On Tonight: Everyone Wants To Know What Will Happen To Winston’s New Cat

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (ABC 8 p.m.) — After what was something of a generic pilot episode, here’s hoping that the series transforms into something deeper, more compelling, and worthy of the Whedon brand. I’ve heard faint rumors that Sam Jackson might even have a cameo in tonight’s episode.

The Goldbergs (ABC, 9 p.m.) — A bickering Jewish family, Patton Oswalt’s narration, and references to Hypercolor T-Shirts? I AM IN. Tonight’s episode takes place in a skating rink, and anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s can associate about 100 songs with a skating rink (the first two that come to mind are “Thriller” and Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry.” What a terrible song).

Major League Playoffs Wild Card Game (TBS 8 p.m.) — The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates play for the right to get trounced by the Atlanta Braves.

Brookyln Nine-Nine (Fox, 8:30 p.m.) — Great pilot episode, weak second episode. The ratings aren’t good. Mike Schur may need to speed up the magic on this series.

New Girl (Fox, 9 p.m.) — Jess and Nick invite Schmidt and Cece out on a double date. Meanwhile, Nick’s loyalties are challenged when he discovers a secret. Wait a second? What about the cat? WHAT ABOUT THE CAT?

Lucky 7 (ABC, 10 p.m.) — I saw the pilot episode last week. That was all I needed to see.

Sons of Anarchy (FX, 10 p.m.) — TV Guide says, “SAMCRO seeks revenge after the compound is attacked.” I wonder who attack the compound? Will Tig escape August Marks and go Walter White on SAMCRO? Check the trunk, people. Always check the trunk.

LATE NIGHT LISTINGS: Nick Offerman is on Letterman; Joseph Gordon-Levitt sits down with Leno; Agent Coulson is on Kimmel; Rebel Wilson does Fallon; Adam Scott is on Conan; and Daniel Radcliffe will be on Colbert.
