The 2014 SAG Awards Nominations: The Usual Suspects, Some Infuriating Snubs

The nominations for the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced earlier today. Most of them are what you’d expect. Breaking Bad? Check. Modern Family? Check. Big names scoring nominations largely on reputation? Check. (I love you, 30 Rock, but y’all had a total of five episodes air during the window for these awards.) Your assorted British and/or new media representatives — Downton Abbey, House of Cards, Arrested Development — sprinkled in for flavor? Check check check.

But listing the people who got nominated isn’t any fun, so let’s get to the snubs. HOO BOY, the snubs. Like, for example, the fact that Mad Men didn’t land a nomination for anything. Bupkis, total shutout. Same goes for Parks & Recreation, which didn’t crack into the list of ensembles despite having arguably the deepest cast on television right now, and whose star, comedic dynamo Amy Poehler, got beat out by friggin MAYIM BIALIK from The Big Bang Theory. I almost don’t even have it in me to advocate for shows like Justified or The Good Wife after I see something like that. It sucked the hope out of me like a great white shark into a crappy CGI tornado. Which brings me to my final point: Ian Ziering got snubbed in the Miniseries/Movie category. He brought at least as much to Sharknado as Rob Lowe brought to Killing Kennedy. I mean…
