Colbert Supports Fox News’ Anti-Charity Push Because That’s What Jesus Would Do

Last week on his Fox News program, Bill O’Reilly said that Jesus would not “be down” with food stamps because most poor people are poor by their own doing and Jesus wouldn’t approve of the government redistributing wealth to help them. Yes, he actually said this.

“The problem I have, as I stated is that you’re helping one group by hurting another group and a bigger group, and so I don’t know if Jesus is going to be down with that,” O’Reilly told his guest, a preacher who advocates helping the poor. “If you’re an alcoholic or heroin addict or a drug addict and you can’t hold a job, alright, and you can’t support your children — and that’s a circumstance of millions and millions of people, not most, but a lot, a substantial minority — then it’s your fault, you’re bringing the havoc, that you’re asking people who may be struggling themselves to put food on the table to give their tax money to you.”

Also on Fox News last week, John Stossel wore a fake beard to go undercover in an attempt to prove that panhandlers are nothing but a bunch of scammers.

Stephen Colbert naturally supports all of this, especially during the holiday season. Watch him further the case against charity below, culminating in a segment titled, “Homeless for the Holidays.”
