If you want the rainbow, you’re gonna have to put up with the rain. In this case that rain will most likely be blood red because Boardwalk Empire will be coming to an end with its upcoming fifth season. This is likely sad, but expected news for a show that had great buzz in the beginning, faltered a bit, and then finally found a perfect rhythm just in time to face cancellation. From Deadline:
“It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers,” said HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo. “Terry Winter has created one for the ages.” Added creator/executive producer Winter, “After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
This news, coupled with the impending end of Justified over at FX, leaves me a little concerned for the future dramas on the docket. There are going to be a lot of empty spaces to fill soon enough and I hope the new shows keep the quality train roaring along. We don’t need another Low Winter Sun playing pretender to the throne.
Not every show is preparing to bow out in the near future of course. We already saw that Game Of Thrones is coming back on April 6th. We also now know that HBO has decided Girls is will be getting another season. The news comes ahead of their third season premiere this Sunday. Yay, right? From /Film:
Hannah Hovarth may be kind of a screwup, but the show around her certainly isn’t. HBO confirmed today that it has renewed Girls for a fourth season, three days before the start of its third season. That’s an even faster renewal than it got last year, when HBO announced Season 3 two episodes into Season 2.
I hope Lena Dunham continues with Girls for at least twelve seasons. She’s full of stories to tell and nude scenes to ruin. Maybe she can be HBO’s Chuck Lorre, who in turn is CBS’ Seth MacFarlane. And they all pale in comparison to television’s Stephen J. Cannell.
Lots of good news and bad news all around, it just depends on your point of view and media tastes. Be happy though, we’ve got plenty of Game of Thrones to look forward to.
