‘The Simpsons’ Had To Apologize For Calling Judas Priest ‘Death Metal’

Back in better days gone by, The Simpsons pissed off everybody: the city of New Orleans, first ladies, Fox, the Egg Council. Nothing was off-limits, and that rapscallion Bart Simpson was not only an underachiever and proud of it, man, he was the littlest of dickens. Now, in worse days gone here, Bart is apologizing, on behalf of the Simpsons writing staff, for mislabeling the genre of a famous band. Vinyl Store Guy nods in approval.

[Judas Priest] had appeared on the January 5th episode with an updated version of “Breaking the Law.” In the show – in which the FBI investigated Homer’s proclivity for illegally downloading movies – the group set up camp outside the Swedish consulate, where the Simpsons were hiding out. But instead of encouraging outlaw behavior, Priest frontman Rob Halford sang, “Respecting the law/Copyright law!”

“There’s only one surefire way to get fugitives out of a foreign building,” an FBI agent said. “Blasting death metal!”

“Swedes love death metal,” the Swedish diplomat who was aiding them said. “It reminds us of death.” (Via)

Fans immediately screamed for vengeance, saying that Judas Priest is actually heavy metal, they pre-date death metal by a decade, and that in episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy’s skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

During this past Sunday’s episode, Bart corrected the show’s mistake during the opening credits and everyone went home happy. Except for the death-loving Swedes. They’re not happy unless they’re listening to pornogrind.
