UPDATE: A representative from Comedy Central has contacted us to inform us this news is a bit premature: “While we love Hannibal and are excited about his pilot, it was just delivered. We’ll be evaluating it, along with several other projects in development, in the near future.”
Hannibal Buress announced via Twitter yesterday that Comedy Central has picked up his series Unemployable for 10 episodes — in addition to his stellar recurring gig on Broad City (which was just picked up for a second season) and upcoming hour-long standup special. This is excellent news for anyone who wants more Hannibal Buress in their lives. Splitsider spoke with Buress for an upcoming interview and this is what he had to say about the new series:
My pilot is just me doing different jobs, a comedian version of Dirty Jobs. So it’s just me working at a goat farm, I worked at a diner, I worked as a fortune teller — just me doing different jobs and then we recorded standup with me talking about these jobs at the Knitting Factory. So there’s a reality portion and then the standup, and I narrate it too. It’s my first narrating gig.
This sounds like a perfect fit for him. The whole “working different jobs” premise has been done before, but Hannibal Buress is so funny he could entertain me reading off of a Taco Bell menu. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am super excited for this.
Let’s celebrate with a stand-up clip!
