It’s clips like this that will make you miss David Letterman. There’s always a big divide on Jimmy Fallon being entertaining with a terrible interview, but he’s gotta do his thing. What you see on Letterman is the end of an era and it’s pretty sad when you realize it will end when he retires.
Here he does a masterful job making fun of Joan Rivers’ angry walk out over at CNN by walking out on her. If this wasn’t on television, with finely scripted breaks and advertisements, I’d say it was impromptu. Even without knowing, it’s still funny.
Joan Rivers then picks up the pieces and goes full Joan Rivers on everyone. I still think it is finely crafted marketing, but at least it’s entertaining marketing.
