Departing Craig Ferguson To Seth Meyers: ‘You’re Going To Go F*cking Crazy, Seth’

Craig Ferguson, who will be leaving the Late Late Show at the end of the year, and will soon be hosting a new game show, Celebrity Name Game, sat down with Seth Meyers on Late Night in one of those rare occasions where a talk show host appears on his time-slot competitors’ show. The outgoing Ferguson had some advice for the newest middle-aged white guy in late night: “It’ll get to you, man. But here’s the thing. You just have to stick with it,” Ferguson said. “And when they ring that little bell, you come out here and you dance for your nickels. And that’s all you do.”

That doesn’t exactly sound like a guy who is sad about leaving late night. He also added that, “Anyone who does a TV show over and over and over again, you’re going to go crazy … you’re going to go f***ing crazy, Seth.”

“Do you go so crazy that you don’t know the day you go crazy?” Meyers asked.

“Yes, and that’s the day you know the show is yours,” Ferguson countered.

In the second part of the interview, besides talking about his upcoming game show, Ferguson also reminisced about his younger years, wondering how he ended up hosting a talk show. “I don’t know. When the rest of the guys were at Emerson or Harvard, I was taking acid in the back of a van with the guy who ended up playing the Doctor.”

He’s referring, of course, to Peter Capaldi. The two were in a band together, Bastards from Hell, when they were younger.
