What’s On Tonight: Martin Scorsese’s HBO Documentary About Books

The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8 p.m.) — One of the nerds feels nervous when he is asked to throw out the first pitch at a Los Angeles Angels game. Expect sabermetric jokes.

Gotham (Fox, 8 p.m.) — Tonight’s episode is titled “Selina Kyle.” It’s probably about Poison Ivy.

The Simpsons (FXX, 9 p.m.) — IMPORTANT: “Boy Scoutz N the Hood” is on.

The 50 Year Argument (HBO, 9 p.m.) — Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi got together to direct a documentary about the New York Review of Books. The last book I read was Paul Reiser’s Babyhood. I wonder if they’ll cover that.

Sleepy Hollow (Fox, 9 p.m.) — “Abbie and Ichabod plot to resurrect a monster created by Benjamin Franklin.” That’s the good kind of ridiculous.

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS, 10 p.m.) — “The team tries to find Callen and Sam, who are trapped in a submarine aimed at an aircraft carrier.” And that’s the bad kind.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Neil Patrick Harris, Jamie Oliver, and Aretha Franklin on Letterman; Ben Affleck, Kate Walsh, and Tony Bennett on Fallon; Jennifer Love Hewitt and Clark Greg on Kimmel; Jim Gaffigan on Ferguson; Michael Che and Rosamund Pike on Meyers; Ben Kingsley, Al Madrigal, and Kenny Chesney on Conan; Hadi al Bahra on Stewart; and Jamie Oliver on Colbert.
