We Can Begin The Countdown For The Final Episode Of ‘The Colbert Report’

It was only a matter of time before Stephen Colbert revealed the inevitable. On last night’s episode of The Colbert Report, the beloved cable news talking head caricature announced the date of the final episode of his award-winning series – December 18, 2014. On that Thursday night in what is supposed to be a season of merriment and joy, Colbert will sign off for the last time and undoubtedly leave a lot of us with a little dust in our eyes. The obvious exceptions would be all of the people he just pissed off with his #GamerGate coverage, that girl who was upset about Ching Chong Ding Dong and basically everyone at Fox News. Other than that, it’s going to be a truly bittersweet TV moment.

While pushing the new paperback version of his wonderful book, “America Again,” Colbert bluntly declared: “There’s an even more important reason for you to buy my book, because on December 18… my show is ending.” Sure, the crowd booed, but it’s not like we won’t soon be enjoying the real Stephen Colbert’s antics as David Letterman’s replacement on The Late Show. It’s just… it’s just sad, you know? The end of an era and whatnot. But we still have almost two months left of The Colbert Report (or 25 or so episodes, depending on his vacation schedule), so we can at least hope for (or probably expect) plenty of ridiculous visitors and moments before that fateful day, when nine years of skewering everyone and everything comes to an end.

Hopefully it’ll look a lot like this, but bigger and better:
